Andrews Neil UDG : : Kincumber Youth Centre

The Kincumber Youth Centre has been designed to ‘foster’ and ‘document’ the social aspirations of the region’s youth. The building has been designed to not only perform as a functional and adaptable community based facility, but has also been designed as a living artwork which provides a forum in which local kids can take ownership over the space through building ‘art’ installations. Community consultation has been a key part of the semi permanent design procurement process and has informed much of the ‘intangible’ or social infrastructure components of the brief.

The building has been designed as a series of permanent and adaptable ‘art experiences’, providing an awareness of how natural, built and social environments can be created or adapted and how passive environmental conditions can be manipulated to create comfortable physical or built environments in which to inhabit. The centre comprises activity spaces, chill out spaces, breakout courts, Art spaces, a Music Recording Studio, Community Health Rooms, and a Community Eco Garden.
