The 1961 house - designed originally by Douglas Alexandra - has been renovated internally to suit modern family life. Bookshelves and wall units were designed to suit the contemporary style of the house. The kitchen features a large island bench for people to gather, kids to do homework and for meals to be served. The work bench is stainless steel with an integrated sink - the owners do a lot of food preparation and wanted a practical and functional kitchen.
Another major undertaking was the garden. Every tree was removed - mostly over grown shrubs - and plants indigenous to the Beaumaris area were planted. The owners wanted a casual beach style that suited the location and their lifestyle, so natural coloured pool tiles, decking and a stone wall that matches the original stone wall were added. The landscaped garden now provides beautiful views from the inside reminiscent of a beach escape.
