The Urban House was conceived as a sculptural insertion within a existing urban context. Elements of the neighbouring houses were acknowledged and appropriated as gutter heights and frontage lines became influential in the establishment of datum lines. Situated on a 10.5m wide site that doglegged between strict council regulations the client wished for a pool for herself and her three children. This item in the brief generated the pool courtyard which served as a pivot about which to rotate the axis of the house along the secondary leg of the site. At the far end of this pool court a seated area forms a vista to view the city.
